So in my last sketch I said that none of us have to stay in our captivity to sin, that there is hope. That hope is found in Christ Jesus' death on our behalf. He paid the price of my and your captivity to sin, which is death, so that we would be able to escape that penalty. He took on our punishment, not because He had to, but because He wanted to save us that badly. That is love, completely, totally unconditional. He didn't say, "Get things straight and then I'll die for you." He said, "I know you may reject me, you may spit in my face and say 'I don't care', but I love you and so I'm going to pay the price."

Romans 5:7-9

"Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
